Located in sunny Tempe, Arizona, Arizona State University is an excellent option for international students who wish to study abroad in the United States. This university is known for its excellent academic reputation and for producing some of the best graduate students in the country.  Arizona State University is a great place for international students to learn and grow while studying abroad in the United States. ASU hosts a significant number of international students, who collectively make up over 12% of the student body.

Like most United States schools, the tuition at ASU can be expensive for international students. However, that should not deter you from applying if you want to attend Arizona State University. Tempe, Arizona has a bustling and diverse job economy. Tempe is projected for a 49.9% future job growth, which is over 15% the national average. While the job economy is diverse, about 10% of the population works in professional, scientific, and technical services, which can be appealing for those students pursuing STEM degrees. Some fast-growing and large companies in Tempe/Arizona include Amkor Technology, Circle K, and PetSmart. Last year, Arizona sponsored almost 9,500 work visas.

Application Requirements

Like all United States colleges and higher education programs, the Arizona State University has an application(s) that international students need to complete in order to be considered for acceptance. There are a number of different requirements that need to be fulfilled. These include:

  • A completed ASU application;
  • Official, certified transcripts from all secondary school and all official results from any leaving certificates or university entrance exams you have taken. If the materials are not in English, you will need to provide a certified, English translation of them. The average undergraduate GPA is 3.00.
  • English proficiency scores. For the TOEFL, you must meet the following minimum: 80 iBT. The minimum IELTS score is 6.5. Please note that the requirements may vary by program.
  • The average ACT score is a 24. The average SAT composite is 1180.
  • If you are entering a program that requires a GRE, please check with that program to see the average and minimum required score as they all vary.

Arizona State University does not say whether they require letters of recommendation, a personal statement, or essays. That likely depends on the school or program that you are applying to.
